The world's largest blank optical media manufacturer, Ritek, is working with its subsidiary companiy, U-Tech, to stop disc copying. Using an RFID chip embedded in the disc, the technology would serve the purpose of identifying copied discs and regional codes permanently. Ritek's CEO, Gordon Yeh is quoted saying, "this technology holds the potential to protect the intellectual property of music companies, film studios and gaming and software developers worldwide."
Next Yeh pulled a bag labeled "Happy Weed" from his coat pocket and asked the reporters if they were interested in going to the roof to discuss the matter further. "There's sunshine and lollipops up there", said Yeh. "Yesterday the board members and I went up there and sang Puff the Magic Dragon while holding hands in our underwear." Suddenly his temperment changed and he jumped through a first floor glass-paned window repeatedly yelling "Go away RIAA dragons!"
A trip to the manufacturing plant led by another Ritek representative revealed a smoky warehouse where a dozen or so employees were giggling uncontrollably while superglueing individual Raman Noodles to the label side of blank discs. None of the workers were coherent enough to answer questions from reporters. The floor was littered with Raman Noodle wrappers, but only about 100 or so discs had been completed, leaving many reporters to conclude they had a serious case of the munchies.
