Can I Zoom?

I have placed a .bmp image on the timeline and stretched it so that it will play for 30 seconds. (It is a high res .bmp of approx. 1500 X 1300 pix, but I know NTSC DVD is 720 X 480). Here's my question: As the image "plays" for those 30 seconds can I zoom in so that the center 20% of the image now fills the 720 X 480 screen? How do I do it and will pixelation be a problem? I primarily use Premiere Elements 2.0 but will get other software if nec. Thanks.

I do this regularly in Vegas using keyframes in Event Pan/Crop when creating slideshows or mixing stills into videos. I am sure Premiere Elements has an equivelent feature, but you will have to look in the manual/help files for exact details. Terms to search on would include Motion, track motion, and crop

I may be over simplifying here, but can't you just keyframe the image, adjusting the 'Scale' slider to achieve the zoom effect? That's how I would do it...

ps you can probably expect to lose some image quality the more you zoom in. I find that whilst I don't always suffer from pixelation, the image can sometimes blur a little. Then again, you may not notice anything at all...
