Has anyone tried the Windows Media 8 Encoding Utility yet? I looked at some of the video on their dev site at:

...it's pretty impressive. I wonder if anyone knows how it compares to DivX versions? Is it going to be proprietary and protected?
Let me know if you have any experience.

Yes, I agree that encoding WM 8 with the WM 8 Encoding Utility produces a very nice video. It's definitely better than classic DivX, and it competes with DivX + Nandub. It's propietary insofar as it uses DirectShow and the WMV format. You decode a WM 8 video with the proper tools though.
