  1. Once in a while IE crashes and shows the following sign. Any way to fix this? Thanks

  2. The extremely obvious answer is to delete the file and remove the associated program.

  3. Yes, but I'm looking for a solution that will keep the program active and still have IE stable. I searched my PC for the file "getflash.dll" and it was located in C:\Program Files\Flashget. So it seems that the module "getflash.dll is related to the download manager Flashget rather than with Macromedia Flash. I went to the IE Addon manager and disabled getflash.dll plugin, but I'm concerned that I might lose some functionality. At least Flashget is still working fine, so I don't know exactly what getflash.dll exactly does.

It's a DLL that causes Internet Explorer to crash.

I'd contact the FlashGet designers and ask them about the problem, and the DLL (what it does, if it's safe to run without it, etc.). IE and FlashGet might be more unstable without it.

  6. I'd lay money you will lose a whole lot less functionality than you do when it crashes.

The prog crashes your system. Ether decide to live with the crashes, or remove the prog. This is not rocket science.

  7. As said I already disabled getflash.dll using the Addon menu of IE. Apparently it's a BHO that Flashget installed. So I assume that disabling it won't affect IE at all (only prevent from crashing when it calls the plugin). Also, I tested Flashget and it's working fine so far. That's why I was wondering as to what this module is for...I'll try asking the Flashget designers.

"Completely embedded in IE, GetFlash enables you to save flashes as conveniently as save images as, and support playing the online flash as well as playing the online movie."

Adobe/Macromedia Flash may be causing the problem, not GetFlash itself. Make sure you have the latest versions of both programs. Earlier versions seem to have problems with IE.

I have the latest versions of both programs. Where did you get that info on GetFlash?

I used to run older versions of Flashget and they too were labeled spyware. By running ZoneAlarm I was able to keep it's advertisment agent from getting online and that was supposed to kill the spyware issue. At least that's what I remember anyway. I might be wrong, it's been quite awhile.....

Do you think that dll file was the flashget toolbar button that the program adds to IE ?

alegator, sorry, can't find the link to where I got that quote from.

If it's not a virus problem, it may not be FlashGet directly causing the crash. FlashPlayer can also have problems with IE.

    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_15511#install_win

You can try repairing IE as the link mentions. It may be a problem with Flash and ActiveX controls.

FlashGet is detected by some antivirus software as a problem, though it may not be.

  13. It is not a virus and it is not any sort of Spyware, trojan, malware or anything bad of any kind. I scan my system regularly with NAV2005, Spyware Doctor, XoftSpy, and Webroot SpySweeper. None of them report anything bad.

No, the Flashget toolbar button is controlled by the module "fgiebar.dll". The module "getflash.dll" is a BHO that who knows what is it for. It is definitely added by Flashget during installation, but I disabled it from the IE Addons so it's not bothering anymore. Also both IE and Flashget seem to be working fine, so disabling getflash.dll did not cripple any of the applications in any way.

I was not referring to getflash.exe, but to getflash.dll. getflash.exe is not present in my system. Only getflash.dll is present and as said it was installed by Flashget and not identified as any virus, trojan or spyware. It is a BHO.

  16. Something which crashes my Pc or a necessary program on a regular basis meets my definition of "anything bad". Also, there is lots of virii and spyware that is not identified as such by most scanners. I do not define them by "the scanner found it". I define them by "they screwed up my PC".

Or it's just a compatibility problem, Alegator. Although I consider Internet Explorer not working a blessing in disguise, if you don't, then take other people's advice on how to fix it, even if that means removing this flashget or getflash thing. See what happens. If it's legitimately the Flash Updater, then simply reinstalling Flash should fix it once you've figured out what the problem is. Until then, you should get rid of it and any other BHOs until you determine what the problem is.

That's precisely what I did , I disabled the getflash.dll BHO and no more crashes. I also fully scanned my PC for viruses and spyware with 3 different updated scanners and my system is clean. So no doubt it is a compatibility issue as you state.

  19. Just an update. I emailed Flashget for support regarding this issue. This is their reply:
    "hello,

Thank you for your interest in FlashGet,we are looking into it,

tporarily this problem can be solved by "run...>regsvr32 /u getflash.dll "
