Microsoft yesterday accidentally listed the pricing of the high-end consumer versions of Windows Vista on its Canadian Web site.
The Neowin.net blog reported Monday that Microsoft.com Canada posted a price list for Windows Vista Ultimate and Windows Vista Home Premium, but the page was pulled from the Web site soon after news of pricing leaked.
According to Neowin.net, list quoted the price for Windows Vista Ultimate as $499 Canadian ($450.18 in U.S. currency), while Home Premium will be $299 ($269.71 U.S.). An upgrade to Vista Ultimate will cost $299 ($269.71 U.S.), while an upgrade to Home Premium will cost $199 ($179.51 U.S.), according to the blog.
In a statement through its public relations firm, Microsoft acknowledged Monday that it "inadvertently" posted Windows Vista Canadian retail prices on its Web site, but then removed the information. The company plans to reveal the official U.S. pricing for Vista when it makes available the first release candidate of Vista sometime before the end of September, Microsoft said.

Amazon is giving different figures. IMO, there are too many versions.

I can think of few problems where the solution is a new OS.

IT IS more colorful windows 2000, THATS ALL
Only time can tell is this new 'improvement' to w2k code really working, or will it be just another half-baked failure as XP was
(and yes, we know you want 'aero' and thats the only reason why *you* want vista, but believe me - most of us just want more stable and more secure windows OS, not just more "eye candy" version) -
I actually already have vista installed. It's the open beta and I already find myself enjoying it more than XP. There are a ton of shortcuts and new functionality and APPS which makes the whole experience much appreciated. Nothing like WinXP or Win2K. I should add all my hardware was recognized upon installation with no need to reinstall any drivers. All works good and quick too.
And Yes, I have Aero Glass turned off because I find it annoying.
Laugh all you want. This is a new Operating System. -

Whats Vista got than XP hasn't.
The real question is do we really need another OS. I think not. -
A new OS sure is a good way to forget the problems of previous OS's.
That said, it's just a part of the evolution process. Personally I won't go to it at work or home until post SP1, but I find reading any information about it very interesting all the same.If in doubt, Google it. -

The changes to Explorer and finally a useful start menu make Vista worth it's price alone. -

The OS is the same old Win2000 code you were laughing atLOL LOL LOL
(as I told you in other post long time ago - if you ever get a look at the code, Im sure you'll find in the heart of it code 'stamped' copyright IBM corporation 1985, thats actually where the real roots of this vista are from, hehe (OS/2)
Same machine with Vista runs SLOOOOWER than with Win2000, although slightly better than XP (and yes, no problems with hardware either since I made it specially for testing vista). Try for yourself, genius
BTW: dont get too sassy LOL, Im pretty sure I was playing with longhorn much earlier than you even heard of itwhat makes you think we didn't get it from msoft directly (like my company - thus me indirectly
) or downloaded it as well (like you)?
Where you even got that stupid notion that since you got it - no one else could have got it? :O -

As ROF said himself - it only has new apps and GUI, which all can be (and will be) configured to work with 'earlier OSes' (WindowsBlinds anyone? Im sure they'll have "Aero for XP" very soon, wanna bet?)

We live in an age where nearly everything is digital—the documents you create, the photos you take, and the music and videos that you enjoy on your PC. Even your daily correspondence with others through e-mail, faxes, and voice mail is digital. Your life is connected to the digital files stored on your PC.
Windows Vista introduces breakthrough computing experiences that are both visually exciting and intuitively designed, and will positively change the ways in which you use your PC. With the new desktop experience, you can more efficiently organize and find your information. You can "see" your files and applications in a way that makes sense to you so you can confidently focus on what you want to accomplish.
....
If MIcrosoft does not highlight new underlying code or technology on their website but instead talks only about how "elegant" it is then the conclusion can be only one...
Seems like Vista draws its power from hardware rather then software. No breakthrough here. -

im happy to announce that you, sir, are an idiot (does that makes your catchphrase?)
vista = longhorn -

Thank you for proving you are lying when you said you had it.
I do not doubt others have it. According to Microsoft reps 1.2 million people logged as using it. I would imagine I am not alone as you suggested I might have thought. How I could have thought that when it was an Open Beta is impossible to imagine unless I live in your world where Vista=Longhorn=WinXP=Win2000=WinNT=???
Keep dreaming. Someday you will grow up and maybe get a job. Maybe that job and corporation might even provide you with the fantasties you are having about the things which you brag about that you do not have. -
Microsoft renamed Longhorn to Vista. The name change happened I think sometime between build 5048 and 5219, so there probably aren't all that many differences.

The argument was about longhorn vs. vista not specifically the open beta. So that means the last longhorn build vs. the first vista build and whether there is a noticable difference or rather so much so that it isn't fair to call them the same. -

Just thought I would point out, as if it makes any difference since one build can make significantly more changes than another, my build is 5384. That means at least 160 changes since name change, of course we all know builds are not done in whole numbers but rather done as three or two digit decimals. The longhorn build was 5116.
