  1. I have been trying to cut out the commercials at the beginning of a DVD using DVD Shrink, but instead of going into the main menu, it goes right into the main video clips. I was wondering if anybody has experience dealing with this, and with suggestion to best do so.

  2. Although DVDShrink provides very flexible re-authoring capabilities, it does not permit you to retain menus once you go into re-author mode.

You might try CloneDVD2 (Slysoft) as it does permit some re-authoring abilities while retaining the menus. Of course it does not offer the full range of re-authoring that DVDShrink does.

  3. You can try this:

    http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/guides/VobBlanker/adding_menus/index.htm

But if all you want to do is kill a trailer before the movie, FBI warning, etc., VobBlanker on its own can do it. Rip the entire disc, don't reauthor. Find the crap using preview function in VobBlanker, blank it, and hit process. Done. Click on VobBlanker above and look for guides on the page that comes up. Not difficult.

    Good luck.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

  4. Much better. simpler. faster and less possible to make unplayable DVD (for unexpierenced users) is TitleSetBlanker. Usually everyone shoud try TitleSetBlanker first because the FBI warning smostly are in separate VOBs or VOBs with unnecessary intros. But in case whan warning is inside main movie or menu, the best, safe and fastest option is to use the new PGC edit function Kill playback or simple Ctrl+K. VobBlanker is powerful but dangerous tool. VobBlanker becomes the only choice when you need to replace a video track with more compressed one. Or one with different number of audios, subtitles or their type.
To find out wich VOB to blank, double click each suspiciously small VOB and select DVD player from program selection dialog it's if not associated.
    Cann't tell it's possible don't tell anything.

  5. I now have an unexpected problem after editing out junks from beginning of a DVD9. I tried to shrink it with DVD Shrink, but DVD Shrink indicated some missing file error so it's unable to process. I am guessing the part that got blanked out was required by DVD Shrink. Unfortunately I already deleted the original ISO file. Other than "shrinking first then blanking later", is there any other way around this?

Sure. If this is your own DVD-9, just rip it again

Otherwise, learn to hold onto your source until you've got the finished product playing in your DVD player.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I think fritzi93's recommendation to use VobBlanker is the best choice. I can't think of a better way to remove all the undesireable elements from a dvd.

Rich86's recommendation to use CloneDvd2 comes in a close second, but it either includes all menus, or no menus. Sometimes the clutter you're trying to get rid of is nestled in with the menus. In that case you can still use CloneDvd2, but you have to use VobBlanker first to clear out the menu pgc. I use this system quite often. It's a good balance of ease of use and functionality.

TitlesetBlanker has a few problems that make is less than ideal for this specific task.
    1) You can't see what's in the titlesets from within the program. You can use another program to see the contents of a titleset, but (at least to me) that makes it kind of cumbersome. VobBlanker lets you easily see what's in a titleset with just a click of the mouse.
    2) TitlesetBlanker only works on entire titlesets. VobBlanker lets you blank at the cell level.
    3) VobBlanker automatically fixes an assortment of problems during it's processing, so it's output is not only selectively blanked, it's also checked and repaired.

As far as VobBlanker being dangerous, I don't really see how it's more dangerous than any other program that is modifying dvd contents. If you are saving to a different directory, and not processing "in place", there is absolutely no danger of any kind. The original is perfectly safe and unchanged. If somehow a mistake is made by the user, they just have to delete the changed version, and try it again, using the intact original.

Lastly, PgcEdit is a wonderful dvd workshop, but as r0lZ said in this thread:
PgcEdit is not designed to trim out unwanted parts, but has the options to kill playback (disable playback but don't remove the VOB), and to blank out a titleset (remove the whole menu or title VOBs, like TitlesetBlanker, also with optional backup).

The main purpose of PgcEdit is the PGC commands edition, to be able to change the navigation flow of the DVD, for example to go directly to the main movie instead of the menu.

When I first tryed VobBlanker it made me a compilation witch was not navigatable. Can you imagine program "everything cheking" and missing this.

If *.vob file type is associated with media player classic, there is nothing cumbersome to double click on file and see its contents.

As regad to "part of title" much easyer and safer is already not new function of PGCEdit kill playback which you somehow forgot to coment.
    Cann't tell it's possible don't tell anything.
