  1. What is the best setting when encoding with cce multipas 3x?
I use 300 min at 2520 max average 1700, but I wonder what the best average setting is concerning that the size is getting bigger - so you need more cd's. I don't mind to burn more vd's if the quality is better.

  2. For best results you set the bitrate to your standlone players max (normally ~2880kbit/s total). Anything less and quaility goes down. Personally I normally use min=300, max=2520 and ave: 1325~2200 w/ 3pass VBR. For DVD rips this gives (IMHO) excellent quaility.

Well there is no best average bitrate, it all depends on how many cds your willing to use, but your right the decision is based on whether an extra cd's worth of bitrate will provide enough of a quality increase to warrant another cd.

This is really a judgment call here but generally I think you need to pay attention to two things. Time of course is the most important factor. When your movie is over 2 hrs long I thing a 3rd cd is usually justified. Another thing to consider is the nature of the film. An action flick is always going to need more bitrate, a low movement film like some chick flicks can look very good even with bitrates less than 1700.

Even at max bitrates allowed svcds are still highly compressed. If you increase your bitrate above 1700, even slightly then I can guarantee that the quality will be improved. The question is whether you'll notice it or not and again thats a judgment call on your part. I'd suggest doing some test encodes to see if you can even see the difference between ~1700 and ~2200 avg, because to a casual viewer, on many films the difference won't be all that noticable.
