Nothing will last forever; tapes, discs, whatever. Even the DVD format itself will be obsolete someday. So keep a couple of copies and be prepared to convert your videos again some day. (Expect a loss in quality anytime you convert.) That's life, my friend.

Having read your other post, I suspect that everything you have done is at risk. You have used mostly cheap media and a poor quality recorder.

    Nothing is forever.

  5. maxell and tdk arent exactly the best discs either.
in my experience with them, there pretty poor actually.
id go for some verbatim or taiyo yudens.
and by the way,i used my dvd recorder to do a few discs, and they only played in that recorder.
so i passed them through dvd2one,and copied them with copytodvd after it,and now they play in all players..i used dvd2one,as i couldnt be arsed to mess about with any other software, and a one stop solution was the quickest for the discs i did(about 5 minutes each).
you could try dvd2one,and see if they work in other players after its use.

No.... Get an external drive and rip the discs to the drive. For backups you should have multiple copies, if they a ireplaceable mulitple copies in multiple places preferably. Ever here of fire, theft, accidental breakage.....

Ditto going with Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. Yes there are some good DVD's that are other brands, but the quality varies so much that it's just not worth it. And I would make at least two copies of each movie. One on a verbatim, and one on Taiyo Yuden...
