www.nomorecoasters.com is one experienced person's view. I don't agree entirely, as my experince differs as to some media. Unless you keep the same combination of hardware going forward, eventaully you may well own something that won't play the media you have, or won't burn to it. If you are happy with the Maxwells, use them.

I use mostly Verbatim(DVD-+r DL) and Memorex (DVD+R DL) media. I rarely use single layer media anymore since dual layer media is now very cheap but when I do I tend to use whatever brand is on sale that week.

  4. NO, it depends on media code, not the label on it.

Maxell, like many other companies, source their blanks from different manufacturers. They are all sold under the Maxell brand, but may not all come from reputable suppliers. The media code will tell you the manufacturing origin on the discs. Discs that are manufactured by TY will be more reliable than discs manufactured by MCC, however they may both be sold as Maxell discs.

You can use DVD Info Pro or DVD Decrypter to see media code information.

This statement is false. The research and materials are done by far more than 1 person alone.

At any rate, Maxell is a brand name AND a manufacturer. Maxell manufactured discs are the ones MADE IN JAPAN. All the others MADE IN TAIWAN can range from Ritek to CMC to Prodisc, for 8x-16x media.
