Hi,
I'm not 100%, but I don't think it's necessary to format the DVD-R disc. Is your machine doing this automatically ? As far as I'm aware it's only DVD-RW that require formatting.
As a matter of interest what source are you recording from ? Can you get a TV signal on the US machine ?

Sorry "Format" Was The Wrong Word, I Meant "Initialize" When I Put A Blank DVD-R In, It Says "All Data On The Disc Will Be Deleted. Proceed?" When I Click "Cancel" It Ejects My DVD, When I Click "OK" It Takes A Second And Then Says "Complete"
I've Connected My Sky DigiBox Str8 To The DVD Recorder
Thanx -
Hi,
Had a look at the manual for your machine and it says it only accepts NTSC signals.
If your SKY box is outputting a PAL signal it's not possible to record that signal to your NTSC only recorder. I don't know much about SKY boxes, but I presume you're living in Europe and therefore a PAL user.
Don't suppose there's a switch on the SKY box top switch the output to NTSC ???
Otherwise I see no solution - sorry !

DAM! Yeah You Assumed Right, I'll Check On The Output To NTSC But I Highly Doubt It, But Thank You So Much Moonstomp For Puttin Me Str8.....But What A Waste Of Money...GR8 DVD Player THo lol

Isn;t There Any Hack, Cause You Can Make The DVD Player Region Free But It Says In The Manual, It Only Plays Region 1...Surely Goes The Same For PAL & NTSC

I'm actually not folllowing you completely.
You have an American DVDR in a PAL country.
You are now trying to record with it....record a PAL signal.
How are you inputting the signal? -

It is not possible to hack the ability to record PAL through a NTSC recorder. The only way around this would be to put a PAL to NTSC converter box bewteen your source and your recorder but it would be as cheap to just buy a PAL recoder.
Sorry - but there's no easy fix on this one.

This might be your savior in this situation....MIGHT.
Also....you may NEVER be able to record straight from a TV signal to a DVDR of any kind since the tuners in DVD Recorders cannot be fooled. The only way you could possible record directly from TV is through a VCR....using IT as a tuner to select the channels then running that signal into your DVD Recorder via the RCA(cinch) connection....like I do with my recorder.
The only way I know to record a non-native signal to a DVD Recorder is via the RCA or maybe the s-video inputs...and even the s-video input has some variables involved if you are using a scart to s-video cable.
There is no hack for what you want to do...just experimentation and a bit of luck. -
Hi,
There's a UK company who sell format converters, but like I said probably cheaper to buy a PAL recorder. Here's the link regardless: http://www.lektropacks.com/view_category.php?category=11
Or try your local "Maplins" as they sometimes have them also. I've never used a converter so I can't guarantee how successful they'll be.
Other than that - try selling your recorder, but beter be sure to advertise it as a USA NTSC model. You never know - there could be someone out there who needs one, for whatever reason.
Cheers,

Hi rhem,
No problem, though try hech54's advice first, as he seems to have been able to overcome the problem before.
Hech54 - I didn't know that you could get an NTSC recorder to record a PAL signal. That's very interesting.
I have some NTSC (non-copyright) videos that I have tried to record from my PAL VCR (outputs NTSC signal as PAL60) to my PAL DVD recorder - without success !! However do you think that if I record using the svideo input on the recorder that I might be successful ? I have a SCART to Svideo cable around thehouse somewhere.
Thanks,

Well I know why technically but it is still frustrating....
I think I've tried every single cable option I can think of to try it....no luck.
Many people resort to capturing the quasi signal to their computers first....but even that requires a certain capture card...not all can do that either....

Thanks Hech54,
Thanks for your quick reply !
Yes I've been down that via the TV Card route also. Worked to a degree but I still had to do some cropping in VirtualDub to get rid of the distortion at the bottom of the capture.
Oh well - back to the drawing board !
