I finally got around to upgrading to Nero 7 Ultra edition. I really like the Nero AVC compression, which I guess is H.264. I can get down to just over 100 megabytes per hour of video without blockiness.

However, I did notice an unwelcome change. In Nero 6, when using Nero Showtime, my videos filled the screen completely. Now, there are black bars all around my video. This has happened on all 3 of my PC's, so it isn't limited to a single install. I wouldn't complain so much, but one of them only has a 14" monitor, so it is quite significant, and I find the black bars very annoying.

At the top of the screen, there is now between a half to 3/4" black bar, while on the sides and bottom there is between 1/4 and 1/2 inch black area. I have things adjusted so that the initial Windows screen fills all but 1/8" of the total viewing area. This allows it to be viewed properly at angles, yet also gives me the biggest picture my monitors will allow.

I thought perhaps that this was an issue the software was having with files encoded with the previous version of Nero, so I tried encoding some with Nero 7. It doesn't matter whether I am watching a show that previously filled the entire screen, or a newly encoded one, now they all have black bars along all the sides, taking up at least 10% of the viewable area of the screen.

This is driving me nuts! Anyone have any ideas? I can't figure out why they would make the video playback area smaller in the latest version of Nero without allowing you to adjust the window size in some way. I have it playing full screen, and I've tried messing around with all of the settings.

Your best bet would most likely be the Nero forums, as this sounds like it is all a software issue. I doubt there is an option to change the display, sounds like the way it was coded.
