  1. Sorry about posting this without doing a search for a tool but I need to create an AVI from a DVD of a show and cut it down to a size that will allow easy viewing over the net. I'll also need to only use certain bits of the DVD so the simpler the tool the better.

I've not got much time to create this.

    Thanks,

    Mark

well first you need to rip the part of the dvd you want, so get dvd decrypter (a free program) google it. once your in dvd decrypter go to mode->ifo and search through the pgc's until you've found the movie file, (usually about 1:45) long and and rip it to your hdd. then next thing to do is get the vob file into avi. you'll then need to get SUPER (also free) then select the output containter to avi, codec to XviD and audio to mp3, then all your personal setting undernieth, rightclick and put add media file then start endoding.
    nothing to say

Another method with freeware tools is to rip with DVD Decrypter, or DVD Fab Decrypter if it's a newer DVD, to your hard drive, then use VirtualDub Mod to open the VOBs you want, cut out the parts you don't want and encode to a AVI format like Xvid from VD Mod.

Or use VOB2MPEG and create one large MPEG of the DVD, chop out the sections you want with Cuttermaran, save them, then encode them to AVI or Xvid with VD Mod. Or you can use SUPER on the MPEG file, but you still need to edit.

I like VD Mod as it has a few more adjustments and a built in editor. It can also encode from some DVD audio formats to MP3. I add the Lame MP3 codec for more options.
