  1. I have a movie i want to burn to dvd but it is a little dark and was wondering is there any way to adjust the brightness/contrast before i burn it to DVD?

    Yes, but you'll have to reencode it. The best way is through AviSynth's Tweak or Levels filters:

    http://www.avisynth.org/Tweak
    http://www.avisynth.org/Levels

    There are similar filters available in VDub.

    However, the chances are good that nothing has to be adjusted, as computer monitors typically show videos as darker than they'll be when shown on your television.

    yep..before you spend any time brightening it make a dvd-compliant mpeg file, burn to a dvd-rw, and watch on your tv.
