"When the hot dog came up, and some of it came out his nose, Kobayashi sucked it back down. To me, that's the testament of a champion and great athlete."
... I've seen this guy on TV, it's amazing. He looks pregnant when he's done. They had a show on the discovery channel I think about this event a few years back and at that time I think it was around the 40 hot dog mark, they put 40 mashed up hot dogs in a balloon to give you an idea and I swear the thing was as big as basketball. 50 hot dogs is unbelievable.

Anyone here ever eat any of their hot dogs? I see them in the grocery store and wonder if they are as good as they say.

I tried the ones from the store once and didn't like them. I usually get the ones from the deli... only the very best pig parts for me. :P

The hotDogs are great if you cook them right. If you boil, panfry, nuke, or roll them on that funky machine you see at 7/11 where they seem to sweat more than they cook.....then you are cooking it the wrong way. Nathans uses a low slow cooking temperature to cook by convection. STILL, you pour on toppings like saurkraut, chili, onions, peppers, ketchup, mustard mayonaise, relish....all on the same hotdog. :mmm:

That's a true coney dog. Out west I see places where they place Chili on a HotDog and call it a Coney Dog. To someone who's been to Coney Island (years ago ) that's just a chili dog. A Coney Dog is LOAD-DED! You got you warm, but soft, bun. A juicy slow cooked HotDog. You lay on Mayo, Ketchup, Mustard, and pickle or relish. Then you top with diced onion, (add light saurkraut if you're in the mood), hot chili, and strips of cheese.

    NOW THAT'S A CONEY.l

My sister's ex-roommate is a competitive eater. He was ranked something like 7th in the world. If you've ever seen that documentary on competitive eating he's one of the main guys in it. The guys train by eating things like pasta and bread...LOTS of it... and then drinking a bunch of water and letting their food soak it up and expand to stretch their stomachs.

Its amazing that anyone is even able to compete with Kobayashi. He just shattered the record before...like by more than double, and for years no one even came within 15 dogs of him.

maybe? hrug: Always worth a try.

Another good HotDog is Zweigles. The white hots are superb (they're like bockwurst, only better). Set them on the grill and slow cook them untill they tan and burst open. The juices just stream out over it. Top it with sauteed strings of onions & peppers, and maybe a light mustard or mayo. They are hard to find, but you can order them online from Zweigles.com . Or do a goole search for places that have them.

I also like a spicy german sausage with the same fixings as the white hot. Not too spicy, but just enough that even though I feel cool, my face breaks a light sweat from behind.

I'm spoiled when it comes to the sausages, my area has many authentic Italian and Polish places where they make it right there. Kielbasa is a big thing and you can get it yeaqr round and tastes nothing like the stuff made by Hillshire or other national brands, that's just a glorified hot dog. :P

Another reason why I miss the northeast. I just haven't found better food. Johnsonville doesn't know a thing about Brats. Fresh made sausages and hot dogs at an Oktoberfest in Rochester, NY will have you drooling in your sleep for years wishing for more. I haven't had a dry pillow since I've been in Vegas. (from the drool )

I've tried them in Las Vegas at the Fashion Show Mall they have a concession at the Food Court. They weren't that bad but hey when you're tired of gambling and shopping in Vegas anything tastes good!!

They have Nathan's all over the place. At the meadows mall here in North Las Vegas, they have it, but the dogs are sweat on a roller like 7-11. the flavor is not the same. :/
