  1. Ave,

I just got a new Pioneer DVR 111D dvd burner, and also have a Pioneer DVR-109 dvd burner. Thus far i had been using Prodisc blank dvd-r media for dvd burning. I had pretty good experience with it, except for the last batch which was totally screwed up.

I was planning on trying out Ritek RiData... but i don't know how compatible that is with Pioneer DVR 111D. Besides Prodisc... what's the best dvd-r blank media i can go for, for a Pioneer DVR 111D burner?

    Thanks.

I never had any problems with Prodisc 8X, but 16X had some compatibility problems with my Sony player. They worked fine at 8X, but if I wanted that, I would have bought 8X. I've switched now to Taiyo Yuden 16X and no problems at all. I burn all at 16X.

You will want to know what media code those Ritek RiData discs are. The name on a disc often is not the manufacturer. Look in 'DVD Media' to the left for media codes and manufacturers of the different brands.

  3. Besides Taiyo Yuden, I've had good success with Verbatim 16X media with my Pioneer 111. The dvd-r (MCC 03RG20) or dvd+r (MCC 004) both do well with this drive. Not much difference burning at 12X or 16X with these but I do prefer 12X which yields slightly better results. I don't have a 109, but my Pio 108 does very well with the Verbatim as well.

Why would RiData be anything other than Ritek or Ricoh (made at the Ritek factory)?

Mine was really a generic statement for much of the branded media available and probably shouldn't directed at RiData without cause. RiData may be only made by the Ritek or the Ricoh company. Quite a few brands, though, do not produce their own media. And that makes the media code, in most cases, more important than the brand name.

  7. Ave,

Thanks for all the input. I'm pretty willing to go for Verbatim as i've used those with other burners with great success. I never knew Pioneer's compatibility with Taiyo Yuden, so didn't look at it before.

What about RiData then? Does anyone have first hand experience using them with Pioneer DVR 111D? Why i ask is because i'm getting those on sale fairly easily.

    Thanks.
