  1. I have footage I have recorded from my dvd recorder I want to edit. So I was going to convert it to mpg2 and edit it Sonmy Vegas and render it to mpg2 again for dvd authoring. However I have converted the DVD to mpg using TMPGENC which works and also VOB2MPG but when I import the mpg into Vegas to use, it has no sound file at all. When I play the mpeg using something like power DVD it defintaley has sound but seems to be getting lost in Vegas. How can I fix this?

Which version of Vegas ? (Current is 6.0d)
What does G-spot 2.52beta have to say about the file ?
Have you tried dropping the VOBs ontot he timeline instead of demuxing ?

  3. It is Vegas 6

Gspot says this about the Audio:

    Codec: AC3
    Codec Installed
    Info: 0xbd[0x80]:48000Hz 256 kb/s total (2 chnls)
    CBR

If I rip the VOB file to my pc using decrypter and import it into Vegas, the same happens, no sound.

Isn't that what wifler is doing? I didn't see mention of demuxing, but that's what I'd try - demux to elementary streams and then import the video and sound files separately. I have the same problem with my editor (not Vegas) where a muxed MPEG with AC3 sound won't import the sound, but demuxed elementary streams work fine.

DVD Decrypter will demux your VOB files, using IFO Stream Processing, resulting in a .m2v video file and a .ac3 audio file. It should be simple to link these up in Vegas.

If all you want to do is simple cuts though you would be better off just using an MPEG editor so that you don't have to reencode. See https://www.videohelp.com/tools?s=107#107 for a listing of such editors.

The OP says converted from DVD to mpg using tmpgenc and using VOB2MPG to get mpg to load into Vegas. Nowhere in the first post does he/she say they are using the VOB files instead.

Vegas 6 what ? Current is 6d. If you are using an earlier version of 6, upgrade and try again.

  8. My Vegas just says its vegas 6. I have ripped it again with DVD Decryptor and have an M2V and an AC3 file, so how do I put these together in Vegas?

  10. It just says Vegas 6 (build 84)
Like I said it wont import the files. When I try to import the M2V and AC3 files like I would any other media file it comes up with an error:

"WARNING: An error ocurred while opening one or more files.
The file is an unsupported format."

  12. Both of them are not supported at all. they are not listed in the importable media files and are just not recognised.

It was said in a post above to demux the dvd vob using decryptor and then link the m2v and ac3 files in vegas which I cant seem to do. The whole problem is that when I convert a recorded dvd from my dvd recorder to mpg and import it into vegas it has no sound at all.

  14. Vegas doesn't recognize m2v files. You'll have to convert them to MPG or go back to the VOB's and figure out how to get the sound to work (like updating to Vegas 6d). Though I'm not sure why it won't open the AC3 files right now.

Regardless of whether or not it helps with this problem, its a very good idea to go to www.sonymediasoftware.com and download the latest version of Vegas (6d).
