I have a couple of shows that are on 2 dvd's. What I'm wanting to do is rip them and put them on just one dvd. My burner is dual-layer capable. My question to you guys, is this: Is there anything special I need to do once I rip the discs? They will be in their respective folders of course. Do I need to rename the VOB files and then send them through IfoEdit to create my IFO abd BUP files and then put all the files into 1 Video_TS folder? I'm asking before I attempt this as the discs are quite expensive and I'm trying to avoid coasters. I'm using Nero 6.0.0.9 to burn too if that matters--should I use something else to burn?
    Many thanks!

If you don't want/need the menus, you can use DVD Shrink in re-author mode to grab the titles you want and combine them into a single structure (again, with no menus). You can then either let Shrink transcode them to make them fit onto a single layer disc, or you can alter the settings to tell Shrink the target is a dual layer disc.

I suggest you let shrink create an ISO on your HDD, then use imgburn to create the layer break and burn the disc.

If you want the original menus, then DVD Remake Pro is probably the simplest method to combine the discs. It will add a simple menu at the top to pick which disc you wish to play, and then go to the original menu for that disc. Write the results to your HDD, use imgtools classic to create an ISO, and use imgburn to burn the disc with a layer break.

Finally, if you are happy to create you own menus, use an application that will allow to import the titles you want (do not use Nero), author your disc, and use imgburn to burn. TDA is a good starter program for this.

Finally, don't use cheap DL discs. Buy Japanese manufactured Verbatim DL discs.

I've read quite a few places that shy away from this method...Shrink throws away any correct Layer break information, and you're taking a gamble with Imgburn to correctly guess where it should go..

So far, the only postings i've seen that confirm correct layer braking is at this page..
Again, this is for self made disks...

It doesn't fall under the same category as ripping an ISO with DVDDecrypter, and writing the same ISO..In that case, Layer brake information stays in tact..

    Good luck!!!

In this case it doesn't matter because there is no layerbreak information for Shrink to lose.

You're be correct, but if you're suggesting that he let DVDSrhink reauthour, that's fine and dandy..
Rather than letting loose with IMGBurn immediately, he would need to run the PGCEdit step..
Although IMBurn is the application that's defaulted to open and burn, it seems like the extra step to get proper layer break is well worth the aggravation...

  6. Buy Japanese manufactured Verbatim DL discs
I thought Mitsubishi owns Verbatim but that their manufacturing facility is in Singapore. All my Verbatim +DL's seem to be from there.

Yes, but as long as the process was exported from Japan, everything should be fine..
