    My Desay dvd is allowed to play mpeg, jpg's, vcd and svcd's. i made a video clip twice, once on a cd-r and on a cd-rw. each time dvd loads and then comes up with message...Unknown disc. No explanation on how to rectify it.

    Sounds like you just burned a mpeg clip onto a disc. Not all players can read raw mpeg and / or your mpeg file does not meet your players specs (resolution / bit rate). You could also try converting your file into VCD or SVCD.
