I have extracted a movie using Mac the Ripper and am trying to burn it to a new, blank DVD+RW using Toast Titanium in the Data mode. When I drag the movie file into the area on Toast, I get a message that the file will not "fit" (my word) on the blank DVD which is 4.7GB capacity. Any suggestions or comments will be read and appreciated. Remember, the only dumb questions are the ones we don't ask. Thanx.

Blank DVD's only contain 4.37Gb,the 4.7 refers to individual bytes.

What wulf109 said. And since you are probably going to ask Mac specific questions, the Mac forum is likely a better choice. We have a knowledgeable Mac community here. Moving you.

    And welcome to our forums.

DVD Remaster (or even Toast's Popcorn) will shrink down the movie to fit.

    HD & DVD manufacturers - 1GB = 1000B x 1000B x 1000B = 1000000000B
    Computer - 1GB = 1024B x 1024B x 1024B = 1073741824B

DVD says on the box 4.7GB = 4700000000B

    Computer sees 4700000000B / 1073741824B = 4.37GB

What version of Toast do you have? Toast 7 can compress the TS folder to fit in a single layer DVD. Use the Video tab, select "DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS" and check "Fit-to-DVD-video compression" in the options drawer. Click the red button.

Your suggestions worked very well and I was able to burn a DVD. I appreciate your help. It plays fine using Macs DVD Player but when I just tried to play it in my consumer grade Apex multi-disc unit, I see the "No Disc" message on the TV screen. This has happened before when I burned a DVD using Toast Titanium 7.1. I am using a Fujifilm DVD+RW 4.7GB/Go blank disc for my medium. Any ideas as to what may be missing or incompatible? Many thanks from this eager newbie.

If the DVD plays in your Mac means that it has been correctly burned so my guess is that your stand alone player does not like the kind of media you are using +RW. It may be the brand or it may be the format. Read the manual to check what kind of media is supported. The most compatible format is -R which plays in 95% of stand alone players. Just buy one of each of the formats -R, -RW and +R and use the one that works best for you.

Look for good quality media like Taiyo Yuden but beware of fakes.

You were right. -R media did the trick and the DVD plays fine in my stand alone player. Many thanks.
    Cheers,
