Usually I purchase TDK DVD+R 16x disks from CompUSA as I was under the impression that they were a high quality disk. However when I use DVD Identify they are usually made by some other company (depending on the batch).
How do I know what I am buying if TDK is not the manufacturer?

By buying from a retailer that sells by manufacturer, rather than by brand. (Or buy discs where manufacturer==brand)
See www.nomorecoasters.com for a deeper analysis.
