I am doing a small project for a friend who has captured some video. He gave it to me as an MPG2 file. The problem that he wants me to fix is the file only has mono (left) audio, and he wants me to double that audio stream as stereo.
So I used VDub MPG2 to take the WAV file out of the video. Then used Audition to edit the audio and make it stereo.
My problem is now when I want to re-insert the audio.
I dont want to touch the video, just replace the old mono with the new stereo wav. Vdub MPG2 will not allow me to do a direct stream copy on the video because it has to be saved as an AVI.
I guess my question is how can I replace the audio without changing the video format. He needs it back in MPG2, and I really dont feel like saving it as an AVI then converting it back to an MPG2.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

OK, another problem. I just tried that, and when I try to mux them I get an error saying "Multiplexing Linear PCM strem to system stream is not supported." This happens when I try and select the stereo WAV file I made.
-
I think you're right, it won't mux LPCM. It won't let you mux AC3 either. It would be a waste to convert to MP2 just so you can mux with the video. Will your DVD mastering application let you choose separate audio and video files? Otherwise:

This may be a thread-jack, but I say, "what the heck.. I'll give it a shot"

Hi. I was reading this topic and came into this piece of info. And I was
wondering, since this tool is not listed in VH:
** Where is this tool ??
** and, What are the steps to convert MONO -> STEREO ??
I realize that it probably won't be all that great, but I thought I would
give it a shot. With a little luck, maybe others might like its alternative.
Thanks,

Even the crappy little "Sound Recorder" that ships with Windows XP can convert a mono WAV to dual mono. Simply use File -> Properties -> Convert Now.

So this person gave you mpegs with mono audio ... you people really dont read many guide's or search much ...
What you wanted was right in front you in vdub ...
Open mpeg in vdub
Go to audio , set to full processing .
Now go to "conversion"
For dvd ... set to 48,000hz , 16bit , stereo .
Go to file , save as wav .
Encode wav using besweet to any dvd type .
Of course mpeg's need to be encoded mpeg2 for dvd authoring .
=====================================
In many case's , editing the audio outside can multiply problem's , such as incorrect length ... and the occassional uknown stream error , even though it say's wav , and one or more program's have no issue in playing the file .
And saying such thing's as "it work's on my pc" dose not guarantee it will work on other computer's ... as it is rare to find any user pc loaded with the same program's and tool's ... only brand new pc's will be of any compatability .
====================================
Next issue ... yes vdub dosent support mpeg ... not directly anyway ... frameserving to bbmpeg yes ...
But there is a way .
Too be guaranteed no audio resync issue ... extract audio as I mentioned above only .
Encode wav audio to mp2 using besweet , above 96kbps .
Run batchdemux on mpeg to demux video and audio (delete the audio file created)
Run bbmpeg_vfw ... you need a small avi file for this ... load one that had no compression applied .
Hit the "add" button , and open small avi .
In upper right is name of clip and where it is going ... change this by typing in what is required ... as in
Example ... c:\temp\design.mpg ... but I want ... c\docs\bjs\tempfile\template.mpg
Ok , hit "Start encoding" ... in next window , hit "Settings"
Now go to "input / output files"
Click "open vs" , and sellect the mv2 stream that was demuxed from mpeg
Click "open as1" and sellect your new mp2 audio file you generated with besweet
Go to "general setting's , disengage both encoder's , engage only both multiplexer's .
Hit ok , then start , and wait .
----------------
Only 4 free program's used ... virtualdub , besweet , batchdemux and bbmpeg .... simple
Ps : If wav is converted to ac3 using besweet ... you can mux the mv2 and ac3 into mpeg2 using bbmpeg as well . -
Well.... I could do that I guess...... very lengthy process.
What I ended up doing was use TMPGenc to demux the mpg, then took the wav and dumped it into Vegas and rendered as a stereo ac3.
Then simply muxed the ac3 (in TMPGenc again) with the m2v from the demux process... aaaaaaaand there it was. All done.
I had no sync issues at all..... everything turned out lovely!
Thanks guys.
