  1. Hi!

I´ve decided to buy a new dvdplayer today finally. I´ve been looking on this Pioneer dv-444 and read some good reviews and some not-so-good-ones.

Im going to use my new dvd mainely for dvd, mp3 listening, some vcds. Im going to connect it to my regular 28" TV.

I´ve read some post that dv-444 has progressive scanning...but its pore though(?) Do I really need this feature to look on a normal tv?? Also that Philips has better horizontal resulution then pioneer, is that important?

Also i´ve been looking on Philips dvd722. It has the same price (320$=3200 swedish kronor) here in Sweden and basically the same features (almost i think). Both is shipped regionfree.

Which one should I buy? Ownsers and besserwissers need help on this one u, cant decide, its my first dvdplayer =(

    Thx in advance!

  2. I vote in favor of Philips 722.
I just bought it today and tried it few moments ago.
It is playing all formats and the sound and picture is great.
Pioneer 444 has better looks from outside (slim size), but has some SVCD playback problems (i heard so).

I woudn't buy Philips (I'm myself quite an unhappy owner of Philips DVD 622). Whatever the DVD player compatibility list states, it will not play XVCDs without problems. Also, you can't REW/FF any SVCDs that are over 40 mins. I'm not sure about the mp3 support of 722, but for my model it's minimal (=no way to display track names, no programming, no REW/FF, you have to stop player to change album (=folder) ...

  6. Buy the Pioneer 444 it plays all formats I have tried without any problems and the picture quality is excellent using the RGB output. I have not got a progressive scan input for my TV. In my opinion the picture on the Pioneer is better than the Philips I look at both in the shop when buying.
