I have a Soundblaster Audigy LS and have a 5.1 speaker setup, when I first installed it, everything was fine, but recently I've had some skipping/stuttering in the playback. I only get this from cd/dvd played on my dvd drive/burner which is set as the master(drive 1). Files on the hdd play fine, along with cds played on the cd drive (drive 2) also play fine.
If I use the onboard sound card, i dont have any of these issues with the cd/dvd on the dvd drive, everything plays fine from any source using the onboard sound card.
So my problem seems to only be with the playback of cd/dvds on the dvd drive. any suggestions on what to do would be great becauese I'm really stumped.
Thanks

You could check the DVD drive to make sure it's not in PIO mode, but that's not so likely the problem. Check this way:To check DMA/PIO mode within Windows:
Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
From there, right click on one of the channels and choose 'Properties>Advanced Settings'. All drives should be DMA mode. The 'Current Transfer Mode' for Hard drives is usually DMA 4-6 and DVD burners DMA 2-4, DVD ROMs usually DMA 2. If you see any in PIO mode, that can slow things down.
Changing them back may be easy or complicated. First see if you can change them in that window. If not, I usually uninstall the channel the drive is on and let the OS reinstall it. This will usually take a reboot. This will not damage any files on the computer.
From there, if no luck, get back to us.
But it may be more likely that your audio driver for your card is corrupted. You might try uninstalling and reinstalling it. Another possibility is you may have another program interfering with it. You may be able to check this with 'Task Manager' to see what is running at the same time.
Also you might want to go the card's website and see if there is anything in the FAQ about the card. You can update the driver at the same time if a newer version is available. -
Thanks for the reply. It seems my problem had to do with the onboard sound card, after I disabled it in the bios, the soundblaster card works fine playing cd/dvd with the dvd drive. I cant believe I didnt think of it sooner, and unfortunately the sound card's website was no help, which is what brought me here. But thanks again for the help.

I hadn't thought of that either.
You can likely only have one soundcard at a time.
Good that you resolved the problem, though.
