My Panasonic DVP 642/17 is no longer working. I was having trouble playing several video files lately (codec issues I think) and thought it would help if I upgraded the firmware (since I did it last when I bought it about 2 years ago). So I burned a cd with the most recent dated firmware I saw online. Then when I was getting ready to upgrade, I realized it was the same version I already had and didn't bother.

A week later I saw this blank cd next to the dvd player and wondered what was on it. Yes, it was the firmware upgrade. I was tired and didn't think clearly. The dvd player started to say erase....then writing. I'm like "this thing isn't a recorder, it shouldn't be doing that to the disc". So I hit the stop or eject button to cancel it.

Now the dvd player is acting dead. I can't eject the cd that is in there. It doesn't do anyting when you turn it on. I tried to unplug it overnight hoping that there is some factory setting that the player would revert to, but that didn't work.

Is there anything I can do to reset the player to factory settings?

  3. If you were upgrading the firmware, and you suddenly stopped the process, the DVD will not longer work, that happens in any case, a friend of mine was upgrading the firmware on his nintento DS, the battery was almost empty, during the process the battery died and the DS now is a cool ashtray, sorry about that but the DVD player is dead, you just have to be very careful when you upgrade the firmware, be sure to have a UPS connected to the unit in the case that the electrical system fails.
