Hey everyone

I've had an idea ever since my "provider" of dreambox CAMs decided to stop his service. My uncle next door opted to get a programmable card instead of finding a new provider since his dreambox has a Common Interface (CI) slot. i have a cheaper dreambox (dm600 pvr) which will not CI slot

I have a PS3 and was wondering if i could use its linux capabilities together with a USB DVB-S/S2 receiver, such as the Technotrend DVB-S2 3650 ci, to use it as a replacement for my Dreambox and it will save me from having to either buy a new Dreambox with CI slot or finding a new "provider" who might stop his service too as they are getting more and more scared of being caught.

I am not very familiar with how the Dreambox works, but from what i (think i) understand, it's basically a PPC computer running software based on linux and using a DVB-S receiver, different dreamboxes have different features ofcource, such as PVR and CI slots.

If that is the case then i dont see a reason why a ps3 or any pc cannot perform the functions of a Dreambox, if they have a DVB-S receiver and the right software.

I have searched for a couple of days and the closest i could get to what i want is
Code:
http://linuxonps3.wordpress.com/2009/05/11/linux-dvb-s2-playtv-howto-use-ps3-as-a-satellite-settop-box/
However, even though this shows that it is possible to use the ps3 to watch satelite tv, this does not say anything about running the Dreambox software on the ps3. Can anyone with more knowledge help clarify things?
Or can anyone guide me to a website more relevant to Dreambox programming, maybe they know something more

Thank you,
Theo
