  1. OK, I swear I have tried finding this same problem everywhere, so I'm taking a shot here. I recently have been trying to make some discs and am having a really strange problem. After a few weeks of easily writing tons of discs (DVD and CD), I tried making a simple CD for a friend. When burning with WMP 9 I believe, it would not burn the CD and kept freezing the computer. So, I tried my DVD writer, and it did the same thing. Thinking it was a software thing, I tried Nero, with the same results. I figured it was something strange, but nothing I couldn't fix. So we made the discs on his computer. The next day I tried to burn a DVD using TMPGenc DVD Author 2.0, which of course had worked flawlessly before. It gives me the error: "Internal error: Fatal DVD Driver Error." So thinking it had to be a conflict with software, I uninstalled the drivers for both drives and rebooted. Same. Then I decided it must be 2 or more burning programs messing with each other, so I reformatted the HDD. Same.

Both drives stopped writing at the exact same time, and both are reading flawlessly. Any suggestions? Thanks.

One more thing: the orange light also does not come on for either drive now while burning.

Uninstall NERO BURN then use the NERO CLEANER to remove leftover registries in windows. Then reinstall it. You could also try opening up your computer and remove the ide cable and install a new one. Sometimes IDE cables do fail.

Thanks. I am going to try the cable, since it is both drives and they are on the same cable. When I reformatted the HDD, I never put the Nero back on, so it's clean.

  4. Tried the cable. Unless another brand new cable has the same problem, that's not it. Could it be the IDE connection on the MB? That's about the only other physical problem I can think of (besides 2 perfectly good drives dying at the same moment).
