Are these any good? They're made by Ritek, i'm looking at the dvd-r (dash-r)

    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?dvdmediasearch=office+depot&dvdmediadvdridsearch...+or+List+Media

media code supposedly RITEKF1..... whatever that is, I didnt see it on digitalfaq.com but alot of the Ritek media was in the 2nd class section, I was hoping lordsmurf or somebody could tell me if they're any good. If its 2nd rate media it would be good enough for me, I'm used to using CMC media

The sale is till this saturday, $19.99 for 100 dvd-r.

I personally do not recommend RITEK media. I avoid it.

SONY media is on sale at Best Buy for $15 per 50-pack. That's a good deal. You'll end up with either SONY or TY or YUDEN media. Try to grab the 8x made in Japan first, then go for the 16x discs or Taiwan 8x discs second. Octagon or hexagon shaped spacers are preferred over the round spacers.

I only found 2 spindles of DVD-R 1-16x spd SONY "MADE IN JAPAN" at BEST BUY. Stupid kid working there told me all the spindles are the same. I told him no they aren't! :P I pointed out to him that the MADE IN JAPAN spindles were better quality made dvd media. He looked puzzled at that point! :P

Back to the original topic of Office Depot dvd media. Unfortunately Ritek isn't good quality dvd media. Go to your local BEST BUY and find some "MADE IN JAPAN" SONY dvd media.

Depending on our burner they may not work. Last week I picked up a 100 pk of Fuji's at BestBuy, they didn't work. Checked the media and the code was RITEKF1. I have a NEC 2500, 2510A and a 3520A. Out of the 3 the 3520A needed a frimware update to recgonize the disks and with the 2510A I had to use MCSE to edit the firmware to get it to regonize the disks. I haven't tried to edit the firmware on the 2500A yet. All and all I'd avoid the RITEKF1's

Yes, Sony DVD-R is fine too. Again, I'd look for 8x Japan first, and then go for others 8x or 16x. All fine media.

SONY media is on sale at Best Buy for $15 per 50-pack.
I don't care to support a company that thinks it's okay to install rootkits and spyware in people's computers.

But you're right about TY. It's about $33/100 at supermediastore.com or Meritline.com and that's with free shipping. When you factor in taxes and gas it's probably cheaper than $15 for a 50 pack.

TY media as low as 27p on svp in the uk now. Never bought it but do be fair ritek media has been fine for me!!!!

I buy 4 pk crap from poundland a lot and it uses ritek and i never have problems at all.

however, I would agree in the main that you get what you pay for simple as!!!

If you can afford it go with TY, or secondly Verb. sony - hmm they r ok but the cost is not justifiable go with TY in that case - the best of the BEST.

I've had good luck so far with my office depot +r discs. Though it was funny my new pioneer 111 didn't read them at first but now they burn and play just fine.

Is there something special about the octagon or hexagon shaped spacers, or is that just an indicator of who manufactured them?

I can't say how much I wanted to know if there were a sale going on
with r/rw disks. I thought about it over the weekend cause it was
a pre-holidy thing heading our way. And, I remember having the thought
of asking here, "any sales on media" -- cause I am running low, and
its time to stock "plentyful" before the next drout arrives.

As far as cheap media goes, I'll take the chance, as long as my home
dvd recorder Pioneer DVR-220-s gives GREEN success with them. And,
so far, that is all I have received with this unit using any *cheap*
    media to date. So..

cheaper you say ? depends, really.

I don't go out much to store these day. When I find a really cheap
price for something, I go out and get it right then and there. Why ?
Because I know I won't find anything for weeks to come. And, while
I use my stock, (and it slowly depleats) by the time another good
sale comes along, I might be ready for another 15 minute ride, which
    includes gas, etc.

So, a 100pk, and for $20 bucks, is more than worth it, at least to me.
In that respect, it *IS* worth it.. it is

If the sale is still going on, I'd like to pick up 1 or 2 100pk spindles,
please. The store is only 15+ minutes away from my house.

Oh, thanks for the sale-post, guys.
