No matter what type of DVD I try to play in WMP, I get this prompt stating that

"Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a problem occured with digital copyright protection"

This happens whether I play pressed commercial dvd's or my own home-burnt dvd's any ideas/fixes please?

Just tried the videos in Nero Showtime, doesn't play so which means that it is not only WMP or any other software but the problem is coming from the drive itself? Any ideas?

You might need an MPEG2 decoder, try your DVD's with VLC.

  5. Check your video card, it should have hardware mpeg2 decoder to play DVD. If not, you need to buy one that has.

Any good freeware mpeg2 decoders anywhere? The best one I can come up with is ffdshow, will this do the trick?
