Hi I have a problem I have to two avi files witch are in DivX 4 I want to merge them and edit some parts from them for this purpose a use Ulead video studio editor . The problem is in this when I want to play the files in Real player or Bsplayer every thing is ok but when I use Ulead video studio I don’t get sound and squares appear on the picture. The same thing happens when I use virtual dab. Also if dvix 4 is install both this programs won’t play the files but realplayer and bsplayer play the files. But if I install Divx 6.1.1 the programs play the file but in the quality I stated above . I assume that the problem is in the codecs, I have installed several codec packages and they don’t help

The "several codec packages" are probably adding to your problems, not helping them. CodecSniper and DXMan can assist you with getting your codecs sorted, but it can be one helluva task to undo the damage done by certain codec packs. Sometimes you're better off reinstalling your OS and starting from scratch.

For this reason it is commonly advised to only install the codecs you need, as you need them.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    If i may add,
load your video into Gspot, find out what codec the video is created with, and install as needed..

If you're going to work with Divx more often, perhaps the Divx forums can give you some info. on newer versions, and codec issues...

On a side note, you're totally at the mercy of the person who created the Divx file in the first place..
Don't be surprised with terrible quality, and file corruption..Just a warning..

Ulead video studio dose have difference's just like any other video editor ... issue is related to either codec or file internal info mismatched or corruption .

Gspot will tell you if you have compatable decoder's installed only ... if yes ... head to super ... if no , you need to install a suitable decoder codec for it .

Problematic file's should be passed through super to fix error's within the file before bringing them into ulead video studio ... there is no fast and simple method ... try leaving certain value's alone ... video bitrate to same as file info in gspot ... audio , consider 44.1hz , stereo , 96kbit .

    Video avi's = output as avi , xvid , wav .

Check new file is ok ... visually compare ... if ok , now delete original file .

    ---------------------------------------------

Beware of new divx version ... it cause's conflict's ... install just to decode video , then uninstall it asap , before running any media program's .

    -------------------------------------------

To prevent having to reinstall os when completely messed up , invest in drive imaging program like norton's ghost , drive image , ect .

When mess strike's , reload system from backup image in less than 10 minute's ... and go again .

Try both? I personally don't notice much of a difference... But it's just me.
