  1. HI all,

Need help. I recently did a job for a client. Edited and converted to mpg2 in premiere 6.5. All was ok but the dvd has a 2 second black area that I missed. I have to redo this project but 1 of the avi files has been deleted. The project in premeire still exists along with everything else. If I was to recapture the video file that was deleted and named it as the same file..doyou think it will still match accordingly in premeire? I mean does it use time code in the background at all. The trouble of course is...trying to start capturing at the same exact location...this seems to be the problem. ANy one ever been through this before? In theory it should work but I am not sure. BTW I captured the mini-dv via firewire from my canon gl2.

Just edit the Premiere project and tweak it as needed.

Grab drive rescue ... it may still be possible to recover the original clip ... read the doc's that come with it ...

As for the recapturing ... renaming of new file ... it should be fine in most program's ... but it may be an issue with the saved project file ... as file size / location / name / type ... may not match as expected by program when opening project file .

If error ... you may beable to remove file which is in conflict within the saved project , and replace it with new file ... if not ... you start from scratch again .

  4. Thank you for all of your help. I just realized something that may be helpful. I still have the full mpeg2 file. It's a matter of a 1 sec gap that I have to fill. Is there a way to load the mpg2 into the time line and add the 1 sec of video needed to fill the gap and not have to recompress again. I'll even process the 1 sec with the same data rate before inserting it. I just don't want to have to process it again. Does that sound like it would work.

As it's such a small segment, I'd load the MPEG2 into VirtualDubMod and save to DV AVI using the Panasonic DV Code - this DV AVI can then be loaded into Premiere and edited much easier.

The resultant "loss" in quality is unnoticeable - I've done this with clips from movies.

  6. It sounds pretty good but i do think I would see loss. This is a 1 hour 45 min dvd. the mpeg was encoded as a 3 pass vbr rate being 9300/5550/2300. Would 1 of those mpeg redo editors help me out, so that I can insert teh 1 sec of video? Keep in mind the audio is present but the video goes black in this 1 section for about 1 second so i just have to insert the audio clip.

  7. I thought of 1more thing. Is there a way to edit an already authored dvd or mpg2 file. I need to fill 1 sec of empty video space.

You may have much more luck with a dedicated MPEG editor. Examples include: Video Redo, Cuttermaran, Mpg2Cut2, MPEG-VCR or MPEG Video Wizard DVD to name the commonly recommended ones... They're in the "Tools" section, "Video Editors (MPG/DVD)" category.

I hope that helps. Good luck...
