I have an Pioneer DVR-105 and I cannot burn the new TDK DVD-R 1-16x (non printable discs) at 1x. I've never

updated the firmware for the 105 but if I update to the firmware version 1.33, will I be able to burn them at 1x?

I prefer to burn all DVD at 1x, I don't care how long it takes to do so.

Why would you want to burn at 1x spd? Go to the PIONEER FORUM at Cdfreaks.com or go to the FIRMWARE INDEX website to post your question.

Yes it is time to update your firmware.

The TDK DVD-R 1-16x are version 2 discs your pioneer DVR 105 will not work unless you update your firmware to 1.33.

Yes you can still burn at 1x but why would you want to?

    For the firmware see here:

    Do not burn at 1x
There is a such thing as burning too slow. This would be that time.

Best to do 4x-12x on all 16x media.

Sometimes when they are burnt at 4x or faster they get pixcellation and freeze when they are played. It does not happen everytime but I figure it's better to spend the extra time and get it right the first time instead of having to redo them.

If you're getting pixelation and freezing it's probably the brand of dvd media that you're using. What brands of dvd media are you using? Post the media ID here by using DVDINFO PRO or DVD IDENTIFIER.

DVDR TDK TTG02 White printables. The 1x-16x are TDK Silver tops but I don't know the media id as I don't have any here.

Old firmware + 16x media does not mix.

I blew up about 15 MAXELL 16x discs last week, trying to use them in an old 4x burner. They are perfectly fine in my Pioneer 109 drive, however.

    The pains of 16x.

The other DVDs are TDK DVD-R TTH02 1x-16x.
