I have one of those "Neato" DVD labeling systems where I print out the label on my printer. Do labels add weight or unbalance the DVDs enough to cause compatibility problems.

Also, I want to buy some Taiyo Yuden DVDs and I noticed thee were two kinds. White Matte for dvd printers and others for thermal labeling. (http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=SFNT&Store_Code=R) I just want to put on the Neato labels and I was wondering if it was okay to put them onto thermal labeling DVDs.

  2. NO NOT USE ADHESIVE LABELS,they can peel and destroy a drive and the adhesive can warp the disc.
Use a sharpie, thermal or inkjet printer.

I've gotten some disks with adhesive labels on them from a trading partner. They won't load in my standalone Samsung DVD player. I have to make copies of them on the computer to get something that's playable on the DVD player.

    One word, folks: SHARPIE!

Unless you have some money and patience, then inkjet printables are nice.

okay, cool I read that long post from 2003. DVd authoring is so hit and miss it's frustrating sometimes. Now that I know labels probably cause compatibility problems I think I will avoid the stick on kind.

I was looking at dvd printers. The thermally printable ones are so low in detail I wouldn't want to mess with them. There are some dvd printer that only cost arond 100 dollars. Do those have more or less the same compatability as a dvd with no label at all?

  9. Inkjet printable DVDs look decent and play fine.

  10. As long as Inkjet printable DVDs are kept dry, they look nice and have not any less 'compatibility' as 'plane' DVDs. Any actual inkjet printer with cd/dvd print feature produces good results. They mostly differ in speed and ink price.
