I recently purchased the Philips DVP642 model divx compatible player. I was burning a bunch of divx/avi files from my computer onto DVD RW discs. Most of them worked fine and play on the DVP player great. But there are issues with some files and I can't figure out why. I've tried burning them to different discs and they don't work so I'm assuming it's the files.

One such instance occurred when I tried to burn four divx movies to a DVD RW. The first movie up plays but won't fast forward. When I skip to the next movie, it tries to play and stops, and then attempts (but fails) to play the other movies.

When I burn each movie individually to a DVD RW disc they play fine, just like they should. Even when I burn the first two movies together they mess up and don't play properly.

Is there something I'm doing wrong when I combine these movies? If it's one specific file, shouldn't it not play at all when it's burned alone to its own disc?

I tried one with a DVD R that didn't work with an RW and it plays fine, with no problems. Maybe this player just has some issues with DVD RWs? Sometimes the player tries to read a RW and will eject it after some time. This problem has occurred with two different brands of DVD +RWs: Memorex and Maxell. Is the DVP Player just hit or miss when it comes to DVD RWs?

I've noticed that the DVP-642 is just plain finicky. Buggy. It does stuff like that. Although I haven't had too many problems with RWs, I haven't tried DiVX movies on RW. However, once in a blue moon, it gets a little flaky with DiVX burned on DVD+/-R and does some of the things you describe. It even shuts itself off sometimes. A firmware upgrade might help with these quirks, but I never bothered though and can't say whether or not it would..

I personally have not had any media issues with this player. I have used many different brands of DVD -/+ R, DVD-RW, CD-RW, and CDR. The only issues I've had were file related.

I often place 3-6 avi/mpg files on a single disc without any issues.

I assume you are burning them as data. Make sure you are finalizing the disc.
