  1. Can anyone recommend a good program that can convert .AVI to a DVD compliant file format? Something that doesn't cause loss of quality??

    Thanks!!!!

"Any " mpeg encoder like TMPGEnc, CCE, MainConcept.
But this kind of conversion inherently causes a quality loss, as the mpeg format isn't a lossless codec.

    What sort of avi ?

If it is DV avi, or captured from a good quality HD source, then quality loss should be minimal.

If it is a downloaded, hyper compressed Xvid or Divx source, look at ConvertXtoDVD or the free version, DivxtoDVD.

If you just want it doen quick, with quality on par with the original, use ConvertXtoDVD. There is a free version called DivxtoDVD, which is worth trying out to see if you like it. ConvertXtoDVD has more features, smarter encoding, and is worth the money, IMO.

Otherwise, look at FitCD, avisynth and and encoder and authoring tool of your choice. It gives you more flexibility, and a more polished outcome, but takes longer and is more complex the first few times.
