  1. Two or three years ago I brought a mintex 1600 based on the ratings on this site. That worked BEUTIFULLY untill about 3 months ago. Then it started not being able to read some CDRs that I myself had recored(all mpg1 files on them in VCD format and bitrate) Some it would read and some it would not. THEN It would skip( the video would halt then skip forward, halt skip forward) on rental dvd and even on packaged store brought dvds.

So I went out and brought and Cyberhome DV-300 based on the ratings here. That was even worse. I have had it 3 weeks. Some recorded CDRs will not even play. Some mpgs on those will play but then when you go to another mpg on the same CD the screen goes black and the machine locks up so bad that you have to power it down and power it back up.

I need a rock solid player that cannot only play NTSC dvds reliably but also CDRs with recorded mpgs and jpgs. It would be nice if it could play divx also but not required.

    Thanks.

  2. It can be a CDR media issue, even so if they have full size labels.

Have you tried cleaning the laser lens? You can get a cleaning disc for $10 to $15.

Sounds like you might have gotten a bad unit. Since you've had it such a short time, I'd take it back to the store and see if I could exchange it for another unit.

I've had a Cyberhome CH-DVD 300 since Thanksgiving '04 - got it on Friday after Thanksgiving special at Menards for US$25. Plays everything I throw at it.
