Downloaded several movies or videos and use ConvertXToDvd and all went well. I have 2 identical DVD players that I bought one for myself and one for my G-Friend, and the videos played well on my machine but NOT hers.[ just a couple played well]
The only difference is the location where she lives and the difference in TV's, which I do not think is really a problem. Can someone explain why this is so. Appreciate the help in advance.

Could you elaborate on that? In what way didn't it play well on hers?
The only thing I can think of (with the info given), is that it's a PAL DVD, and your TV handles PAL, whereas hers don't.

Once the DVd is loaded up , the picture starts to "flicker" continuosly and does nothing but flickers.
It is an identical machine, bought it from the same place at the same time on the same shelf.

    Ditto.

I can't see leads being a problem either FWIW. Any possibility that the setup of the two DVD players is slightly different ?

Maybe GSpot one of the VOBs to confirm or rule out PAL/NTSC and TV issues ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

That brings my guess very close to fact.

The only difference is my G-friend is 40 miles away, and the TV is a flat screen and much newer than mine,my TV s a SHARP and it is more than a decade old. I will check the setup again today when I visit, this really gets me....... huh

...or it's possibly you've shown further proof that dvd-r is simply not always 100% compatible...

  8. Whatever the answer is, trying to convince your GF you did not give her the one you knew to be a POS may be difficult.

To get around this, and also assist in solving the problem, physically transport one of the players to the other location and hook it up. I would suggest taking your unit to her location.

The two different displays are almost certainly the issue, I too vote for some sort of PAL/NTSC issue.

If you want even more accurate suggestions, do as jimmalenko asks, and load a VOB in GSpot (latest ver) and let us share the result. Not that there's a doubt in my mind, but...

Is the DVD player dual format (pal/ntsc)? You may want to check the settings menu of her DVD player and verify that the default playback mode is NOT PAL. If it has an auto setting, use that. If it this doesn't work, try setting the defaul to NTSC only. If this doesn't work... check the video itself (as recommended above).

How close to identical are the serial numbers? Just because they came from the same store at the same time doesn't mean they have the same firmware.

...or in fact not even the same hardware. (One could well imagine different manufature of drives.) But that seems like a more unlikely cause to the problem. My bet is still on a PAL/NTSC issue.
