Hi. I have some video files that I got from shareazza. When I started the download the file had some 250MB but When I finished the download it had 1GB.

    Anyone heard of this before?

I searched the forums and I couldn't find anything on the subject.

    tks in advanced

    Okay... I'll do it.

This question is (questionably) a violation of forum rules. Downloaded video clips are almost always illegal and no one at this board will help you with any information on the subject, as you've already noticed when you said; "I searched the forums and I couldn't find anything on the subject. "

You couldn't find anything because the question is a violation of the board's Acceptable Use Policy. While not specifically asking for warez, the question is warez related and could be considered as advocating warez.

If your clips are not illegal then take this advice with a grain of salt. I'm just telling you so that you'll know why your question was ignored and I make no judgements against you either way.

    Peace,
    Nitemare

Not necessarily. There are *some* legal stuff on those places.

And no, I've downloaded stuff off Shareaza before, all 3 networks, and I've never had a file that went "bloated" on me.

That's because we don't disscuss downloading files from sites that are traditionally used for sharing copywrited material. Regardless of the fact that maybe 1% may actually be legal or not copywrited. I love when general assumptions are made. I hope we all know better than that.

That may be true. Anything is possible Butttttt,,,,, come on, lets be realists here. We all know what most of the traffic in these sites is. If something is perfectly legal I usually get it directly from its source. The company's FTP. Its a lot faster than in P2P network.

As to the poster's question. Are you saying that the file initially was labeled as being 250MB and after finidhing the DL it became 1 gig?

First of all. What was the file? Could it be possible that somehow the program displays it at the wrong file size? Sounds a bit strange to me.

Can you download the file from a more reputable source? Most of the P2P files being shared are filled with virii, worms, and all sorts of other nastiness.

    Hi.

First of all sorry for posting a question about files downloaded from Shareazza, for the record the files weren't illegal.

I was downloading some cartoons, old ones, of superman. I know those ones are open source.

The problem is that the file was labeled as being about 250MB and when it finishes downloading it becomes 1150MB.

I was just curious about it. Wondering if anyone heard of that. But if the question is a problem then then I'm sorry for posting it.

    Tks

Please don't confuse open-source vs. copyright expired. I think you really meant to say that you believe the copyright has expired on the cartoons.

Technically speaking those old cartoons are STILL copyrighted. US is a WIPO signee and thus all TV shows are now protected for, oh, how many years? It's like over 70 years, I think. Kinda long, but that's the way law works.

If you want old, legal Superman cartoons go here:
    http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=superman%20AND%20mediatype%3Amovies

This is a great site filled with lots of open source audio, video, and text.

I do not know about the video stuff and copyright, but this is how law works for patents:

I've got a patent. Patents are normally protected for 20 years. But I have to pay a fee for each year. Those fees increase each year very much. If I do not pay a fee - my patent right expires and after that anyone can use my patent.

I do not know if that applies to copyrighted video, books etc. - but I believe it does.

Patents are completely different from copyrights.

Yes, you're right - I saw it here:
    http://www.copyright.gov/circs/circ1.html#wci

    Interesting reading about copyrights.

  12. The point is that you can download those cartoons on this public website instead of using P2P software that is almost always used for downloading known copyrighted material.

I first saw the superman episodes on archive.com, but I'm lazy, so I queued them all in Shareazza :P.

Well, thanks for the replies. But any thoughts on the bloating of the files? :P

I'm just curious at this point, since I already downloaded the episode from archived.com.

    Tks

Does it play ok ? What codec is it encoded with ? use something like gspot to find this plus the video bitrate and how long (mins ans secs) is the clip. With this info it should be possible to see if it's size sounds ok

What makes you believe the file should be 250MB, and how are you ascertaining that the file is 1GB ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

There are also download assistents, such as flashget, that allow you to queue downloads from sites like archive.org. You will get the quicker than through peer to peer, and you will get the right file, not some butchered version.
