    Hi

    I am using a freeware mov to avi converter (Kwerkx). The avi file size is 203MB , 2.5x the mov size (~80MB). Can someone with more experience than me (probably everyone reading this) tell me if this is to be expected for this type of conversion or is it due to the software I am using? My ultimate goal is to pass the avi file through a streamerless video conversion product (like webmastermediamaker.com) so that my client can show his huge video files online. The client is a non-profit charity that does not have the budget to pay for a streaming video server host or extra disc storage space for the 8 huge files he wants to display.

    Thanks for your help

  2. It depends on the compression formats used in both the mov and avi files.

    For the mov file, open it in Quicktime and see which compression format it is. Go to Movie menu, Get Movie Properties and then choose Video Track / Format. It should tell you.

    If Kwerkx can let you select a compressor for the avi file, try different ones at different settings to see if you can maintain the picture quality while making the size smaller.

    Mov to avi = big avi (normal)

    Why convert smaller to larger ?

    ====================

    If avi , you might try the other free encoder's for psp , ipod , 3gp ... they do work ok .

    Psp , while I think it's nutt's , and a waste of buying video for it (some ask about up converting it for dvd) ... it dosen't do a bad job .
    Ipod , is fine , but again , I wouldn't buy video for it either .
    3gp ... what , you want to go blind ... all that squinting .

    There are also some very small player's for these type's as well incase user's need playback software on pc .

    There is also the windows media encoder ... you would need to fiddle with the setting's to get it right ... for this , super is simpler .
