  1. I used Nero-6 to make backup of my movies and I noticed that sometimes the movie would freeze for a few seconds a few times.

I understand there are many factors like the burner, the media. etc. My question is if I work on something (like surfing the net, working on a Word document, etc) while burning the DVD, would this cause the freezings?

Not likely. First try would be to use a different brand of disc. Also if it freezes at the very end of the movie try not to fill the entire dvd, sometimes cheap media can lock up on the very outeredge of the dvd.

Many here would say to slow burn at 4x or so. I only have a 4x burner so thats what I burn at by default and have had very few problems. If your computer is moderately recent in terms of power you should be able to surf and burn at the same time. I just wouldn't play a video game at the same time, might be too taxing on the system. But other low power apps aren't going to affect the burn.
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

  3. I always burn at the lowest speed: 2.4x. Some of the backup DVD freeze near the start of the movie.

  4. Maybe there is very complicated instruction set if the freeze is before menu appearance. But with regard of poor burning in the beginning look for the buffer display in the Nero - how quickly it acquires steady state after burn start. If jumping continues for more than 30 sec. then probably put the burner on different cable from hard drive or other DVD you are copying from. And also to determine the burn quality you can look at the dye of burned DVD towards the centre. Is it uniform or has wavy rings around it. Also you can increase the burn speed to 4x. Maybe writer burns the “holes” to large at slow speeds for disks meant to burn at faster speeds. I have noticed also that cheep disk manufacturers optimize their media for latest burners while not trying to support old ones. The best burner I have discovered lately among many is Pioneer 111D. I burn at 6 of them at once.
    Cann't tell it's possible don't tell anything.
