We used Partition Magic to partition 30G laptop and copied all data folders to new partition. He had 3 different users (I think that's what you would call them) windows which when clicked would take him to that user's folder with the Music, Photos, etc. folders.
How does he get the user window to connect to the new partition. Must be some kind of pointer or something. Windows XP Home.
After coping the three main folders from C partition to the new partition, he deleted the old user folder and when booted up, clicking on the user icon just sits there. Clicking on the other two icons still work (because he didn't delite them yet, but that was the whole idea to get all data files on a separate partition).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Dont forget to go into control panel ... user account's ... remove non-existing account by user name ... then reset new user account ... must be logged in as admin to do so .
Messing with "my document's" default location may mess with system default's ... so it would be ill advice to change this .
Best to add shortcut folder's in user's account that lead directly to required folder location's ... this is the safest method ... if you stuff it up ... you have less headache's .
From here , when user log's in ... you can change the default's as to where file's are stored for music (my music) ... shortcut lead's to d:/my music , user doc's (my document's) ... shortcut lead's to d:/docs ... ect .
Should user account become messed up ... when user account is removed ... all doc's , ect ... should remain on D ... under the default setup by the system os ... this stuff is removed ... gone .
Do it my way cause's less problem's ... and it make's it easy for user to backup their data , ect ... because the file's reside on ... in this example ... D drive ... no need to hunt them down . -
Each person had his own wallpaper, settings, etc. By doing it your way, will this all work the same way. We are extremely new to XP and a lot of this is hard for us to grasp. Hopefully this will work out for us. You might be hearing from us again. Thanks again for your quick reply.
