laptop motherboard swap......

i am gonna try to swap out the OEM motherboard for a replacement of the same. My HP motherboard will not charge a battery or run off any battery power and after doing research its a known problem in HPs. So i found some motherboards off ebay that is the same part number as mine. My question is that since the MB serial number will be different, will i have to reinstall XP? or is there a problem to swap the serial number too? i thought i read this somewhere.

Before swapping motherboards, check the solder joints where the power adaptor plugs into the motherboard. That seems to be a weak point on many laptops.

That being said we did rma a HP laptop for the exact same problem where it was a mobo problem but why not look or try a resolder first, It can't hurt anfd might help.

Since it is a known issue with your branded board, how do you know the new board will not have the same issues? It seems like you are replacing a lemon with a lemon and hoping for a tall glass of lemonade.

one i have already replace the DC power connector on the motherboard twice. once by HP and the 2nd time by me. Its a 2 pin DC connector. So if i solder it down and get power via the AC cord then why wouldnt the battery power it then? one thing i will check is that the battery charging circuit is fine and make sure the seller has a return policy then i will swap and find out. Cause if i can get a MB for under $100 then its worth a shot.

laptops are not standard like ATX PC's........and HP...well...i won't even go into it.....

i havealready tookout the MB once to solder in the DC jack. so replacing it should be about the same.
