I'm copying DVD to DVD of a homemade video (ie. not commercial). Do regions still apply? Specifically, can I copy the DVD that I can play here in the US to another DVD-R, mail it to someone in the Austrialia, and ensure that they will be able to play it?
Probably an easy question. Thanks in advance.

Regions shouldn't be much of an issue as almost all homemade DVDs will be Region 0 (Region-Free). Most DVD players can play Region-Free material - if not out of the box, then most have some sort of hack available to enable it. At worst they could play it on their PCs.
Where you'll get issues is with formats - the source is more than likely NTSC whereas PAL is native to us in Oz. Your friend will need a TV that is capable of displaying NTSC, or alternatively a multisystem DVD Player that can convert to PAL on the fly. However it seems that most devices these days in Oz handle both NTSC and PAL fine. Again, worst case scenario is that it will work fine on their PC.If in doubt, Google it. -
