  1. A quick question. Right now i'm encoding svcd's with the following

    AMD 1.2Ghz
    256MB DDR Ram
    60gb 7200 rpm, 4mb cache, ata100 8.5ms Quantum AS Plus hdd

it takes me roughly 10 hours (all steps, rip, dvd2avi, tmpeg w/ 2pass)

Would this make a HUGE difference if I were to insert a

    18gb SCSI 10,000RPM 4mb cache, 4.9ms, IBM ultrastar
    or
    36gb scsi 10,000RPM 8mb cache, 5.5ms, Seagate Cheetah

both will run off of TekRam U3W controller

will i see a major time decrease?

SCSI is if i remember right, used for adding ecxternal devices to a computer.

Encoding time is dependant on Processor speed.

  4. aite, so going SCSI hdd's instead of my current IDE will result in no gain for my needs? I know that scsi isn't dependent on the CPU as ide drives are.

Put it this way, buying a SCSI drive to speed up your encode times is a waste of money. You would get a bigger performance hit by over clocking your CPU a twitch.

  6. SCSI is great for servers, with lots of file access, it won't increase your encoding speed by a single minute unfortunatly, as that is not the purpose of it.

Encoding speed depends solely on your CPU speed, the faster it is, the faster you encode.
