  1. I ordered and just received a USB 2.0 PCI host controller . . . okay, call me stupid for thinking that screws would come with it, but where do I get the screws that I need to install it?

Do you mean the ones that hold the PCI card in the slot? Steal one out of the rear of the computer for now and take a second one by a hardware store and get a few spares. There are usually only two main sizes in most computers, the fine thread ones for the optical drives and the courser ones for most everything else. The hexagon head case screws should all be the same size and thread.

If you visit a local hardware store where you buy lumber and such you can find them. These screws are 1/4" 6-32 screws. Sometimes if you just tell them you need 3 or 4 they will just give them to you since they usually sell this hardware by the pound.

Dont use the one's from the back of the case , they are the wrong thread .

The correct thread is used by the screw's that hold the motherboard , floppies , and cdrom's inside case .

    Hex head's come in 5 different thread type's .

Look around on the case -- For example Hp and compaq put extras on the front (remove front bezel)

  6. You're local computer dealer will probably give you a few for free. Here's a good thing to have if you plan on building or upgrading your own computers:

  7. There are cases out there which do not require screws. I have one like that and it has a retainer/support bracket type to hold the adapters down in place.

But if you do need one for your case, it should "normally" be screwed onto the case where you have to remove the back cover for the slot.
It's time to kick some butts, and presto ( if you know what I mean )

  8. Hi all, Thanksl for responding. I can't steal a screw from the back of my case because there was only 1 and I used it to screw in my firwire card, lol. I thought they were special screws that only computer hardware stores sell.

    Thanks again . . . Denise

  9. I second the go to a local computer store, we just give them out as long as the person isn't being greedy and just needs a few.

I usually just grab a ziplock bag and put a small handful of assorted screws from the gray bin we have at each workbench location.

I buy a bag or two of assorted computer screws when I make an order of other parts from these guys. Comes in handy at times: http://www.computergate.com/products/item.cfm?prodcd=CFLSCW1
