  1. Ok, was trying to fix the sound on someone's old old PC and ended up messing it up more than anything.

Somehow the display driver got disabled. Now the computer won't startup. It goes to the Windows 98 screen and freezes everytime. I am able to startup in Safe Mode only. I went to Device Manager and looked under 'Display' and the icon for the display driver(S3 Virge or something like that) has a red x over it. So I assume it is just disabled. Because it tells me the drivers are already installed when I try to reinstall them. So, how in the world do I re-enable it? The thing that makes it even more complicated is that the only cd-drive on the PC had been previously uninstalled for whatever reason. So I can't do things via cd-rom. Just to reinstall the display drivers from the Win98 2nd edition cd, I had to put the cd in a different PC and copy the driver files onto a 3.5 floppy drive.

Anyways, how do I re-enable? I know how on like XP, there is just a button to click that says(enable/disable). But it's not like that on 98 2nd edition. I looked everywhere for it, tried right clicking it in device manager, looked everywhere, there is no re-enable button anywhere.

    Please help!

    Thanks.

would using the win98 bootdisc to command prompt then 'regedit' to do a registry restore help?

  3. Not really sure, but how do I do a registry restore? I think I can do command prompt w/o the win98 bootdisk. Whenever I boot w/ F8 I can do Safe Mode, Normal, or Command Prompt. I can always try it I guess, but i've never done a registry restore before. So unless you just click 'reg restore' and it automatically does it... I have no idea if it would help.

I can't try it right now because the computer is at another house. So the more suggestions given, the more things I can try when I get there....

    Thanks!
