Hi, had a look thru the DigitalTV/DVB/HDTV section of VideoHelp and there isn't a lot out there, but what software do you use to view, capture, playback, convert Digital TV?

We have standard DVB channels here in Greece, no HDTV
So, I use mostly progdvb for my skystar2 card to watch and capture the dvb channels
I edit those captures with mpg2vcr
I filter / resize / frameserve with virtualdub mpeg 2
I Encode to mpeg 2 with TMPGenc, MainConcept, sometimes CCE....
For XviD/ DiVX AutoGK is the easiest and among the best solutions. Sometimes, I use virtualdub -
I used to use Showshifter to record from digital TV (Hauppauge PCI TV card) but it's recently stopped working. Can anyone recommend an alternative? I've tried Cyberlink's offering but it needs their own TV card.

1). HDTV Card:
ATI HDTV wonder: good reciption.
FusionUSB: excellent reciption.
Also tried Kworld ATSC and ADS InstantHDTV. Both of them sux.
2). Watch/Record softwares:
ATI MMC for ATI card.
Pros: Least A/V sync problem for MPG files exported by
the enclosed ATI software.
Cons: Only one sub-channel can be recorded at a time.
DVCIO enclosed software with FusionHDTV.
Pros: Can rerord .ts format. Can record all sub-channels
at the same time.
Cons: Sometime has A/V sync problem for MPG file extracted
from .ts. I was told that it is due to lacking of
quality software to handle variable bit rates AC3
stream.
I also tried WatchHDTV for both cards. It is an excellent
software for watching HDTV. But I have difficulty to deal
the format of the recorded file by WatchHDTV. So I stoped
using it.
3). Generate 720x480 30fps AVI (using PicVideo codec):
virtualdup-mpg is used to crop boundary, resize to 720x480,
convert to 29.97fps, and convert to PicVideo format AVI.
4). Generate audio wav file:
virtualdup-mpg to extract audio stream and BeLight is used
to convert audio to wav file.
5). Edit, add manu, and burn DVD.
Pinnacle Studio 9 is used to merge A/V streams, edit, sync
A/V, add manu, and burn DVD disks. -
With standard DVB-C channels on cable (no HDTV) in Sweden:
1) I use DVBControl or DVBXtreme to record to PVA format with my Technotrend Premium DVB-C 2.1 PCI card.
2) I demux/fix to elementary streams with ProjectX or PVAStrumento.
3) Author it directly to DVD as normal (mostly the streams are already DVD compatible) and watch it on my standalone DVD player or DVD player software in PC.
I don't use PC to watch TV. I use my cable box and watch it on TV, or watch recordings from burned DVD's. -
Capture with MyHD card
Edit out comercials with HDTV2Mpeg2
Play back with LinkPlayer2 over network -
Pinnacle AV/DV capture card
ScenalyzerLive-Timer Capture to DV
Vegas-Edit and rendering
TMPG DVD Author -
I use my fusionhdtv software that came with my fusion hdtv 3 gold capture card.
Then I:
Use project x to convert to m2p
Edit out commercials with mpeg2cut
use project x to demux mpg file from mpeg2cut
use tmpegnc to dowconvert the .m2v file to dvd specs.
use tmpgenc to mux the .m2v and .ac3 back together.
use tmpgenc dvd author to make menus and burn.
Looks beautiful but takes 5-6 hours total for 1 hour of hd video on my celeron 2.66ghz (512mb ram).Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
