Is there any software that will act as a pvr or tivo type device? I have a video capture card and watch tv on my pc but I hate sitting through the commercials. Is there anything I can use?

AFAIK, no
that's why the advertising industry is so mad at tivo
it senses the commercial's signal and stops recording
perhaps this bump will reveal something else from the members here -
You should scan/search through the TOOLS on the left column of this site.
Have you never heard of Beyond TV from Snapstream? (commercial/purchase it)
How about GB-PVR? free
I'm sure there are others. Please make the effort to search some more.
And what's more, TIVO does NOT stop recording during commercial breaks. I have 2 TIVO's and they do not do that. You can, however, fast forward/skip through them.Whatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.) -
zoobie, Where'd you get that Tivo stops recording during commercials idea?
I have a Tivo for years and it records everything, Can you imagine the uproar if it sensed commercials and didn't record them the first time it mistook part of the show for a commercial?
OTOH if you use the proper keystrokes on the remote you can turn on a 30 second skip function that I prefer to FF'ing through commercials. -
ha ha!
I thought I heard this on tv
I must have mistaken "skip" for "pause"...or it was a dream
I sit corrected...my bad -
Thanks for the responses, I will check out some of the ideas of painkiller.
Death to Commercials!!!!!!!!!!!
And another thing, I hate people who try and up sell you (biggy size my combo etc), I had a lady trying to up sell me a car wash yesterday, just give me the d**n wash...lol -
You'd be surprised how often upselling works.
Or suggestive selling, Example:
You go to McD's/Wendy's/BK and order a Burger and fries, suggestive sell drink, or order a burger/fries/drinnk, sugestive sell a dessert and so on. It works.
Anybody recall the days when your order automaticlly had napkins, sal & peper, and ketchup in the bag. They discovered that making it an ask for item saved money. -
Can anyone get to http://www.gbpvr.com/ It seems to be down. Is there a mirror site?

I just used your link in your msg and it appears to work just fine.
Perhaps at the time you had a problem, but not now??Whatever doesn't kill me, merely ticks me off. (Never again a Sony consumer.) -
I guess I shouldn't have installed that software, my PC had a melt down. The resources are 100% and nothing else can run, and it won't un-install. So desperate I am trying to clean it through dos, but so far no luck.
Major Meltdown.
