This question relates to ffmpegX and also to "everything else". I just replaced my G5 with an Intel iMac. I had a great collection of codecs that would permit me to play mpeg-2, AVI (with AC3 audio), OGG, FLAC, and others.

Where does one find the Intel codecs for OSX? Which ones do I need to have ffmpegX continue to do all the conversions? (I normally convert everything -to- H264 for iPod.) As important: What about playing everything not considering ffmpegX conversion?

One issue I've seen (rather, "heard") is a terrible clicking and distortion when playing an AVI with AC3 audio. I did not have this problem with my G5.

    Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks!

You just download the latest version of ffmpegX for converting stuff. Everything you need is in the box.

Then you download and use VLC for playback.

QuickTime codecs - particularly AC3 - are difficult to find, and flaky when you find them.

    Ut.
