anyone else wanting to share their experience on the matter. Comments in another thread referring to YUDEN000T02 being out of production raised a question in my mind. I have acquired several spindles of TYG02 and YUDEN000T02 to use sparingly as situations arise. I always store my unopened spindles in a closet in the dark where heat and humidity are not issues. However; I now find myself with open cakeboxes of these two media codes that I move back to this closet after use. Are there any special precautions to be aware of when having open cakeboxes for what could be long periods of time?

I don't really think so, no. "Common knowledge" states you should use new media within a year if you can. But I've really dismissed a lot of that in the past couple years here. It's probably a good idea to use them "fresh" but don't get overly worried about it.
I've been sitting on a spindle of PVC CD-R for around 5 years now, use it sparingly for CDs for my car. I know a few other people in the same situation, we hold on to the deep blue colored CD-R because older players work better with it (MXL, SONY, KODAK, PVC, etc).
I've had some PVC DVD-R discs and some MXL DVD-R media for 2-3 years now as well, use them sparingly. Another friend of mine still has a stash of 2001 Apple MCC discs and they work plenty fine. PRODISCS03 from a couple years ago, used slowly by a family member, work fine.
Mine are in my home office, in a shelf that falls under constant shadow (minimal light indoor, zero outdoor light). There is no special room or closet or box, just a shelf in the middle of a floor unit.
The biggest thing is to keep it away from exterior walls, off the floor, away from anything that cause possibly harm it in any stretch (don't store them by cell phones or speakers or your magnet collection), and keep them sealed as best as possible from dust.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
