I have an old RCA model RC5220p dvd player. I wanted to invest in a n DVD writer that burns dual layer DVDs. Though how can I find out if my DVD player will read them??

Google RCA RC5220p and see if anybody has related their experiences.
Most likely it handles dual layer but maybe it doesn't like DVD-5 or DVD-9 media.
When in doubt, test it yourself. Borrow a sample disc.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

It won't. This player won't even read burnt CD-R's. It stutters with even pressed media. I owned one and it died within six months which was a good thing because I got my money back and bought a much better player with money to spare.
